Indian Head Gold Coin
The Indian Head Gold Coins, minted from 1908 to 1929, are among the most unique and visually striking U.S. gold coins. Designed by sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt, they broke from tradition by featuring an incuse design, meaning the artwork is recessed into the surface rather than raised. This made them the first U.S. coins of their kind. Each coin is composed of 90% gold and 10% copper, giving them strength while maintaining their rich golden hue. The Indian Head gold series is highly sought after due to its innovative design, historical significance, and limited mintage before the U.S. halted gold coin production in 1933.
